Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I get my Gas Appliances serviced?

An Annual service for all your gas appliances is vital for several reasons:

  • All gas appliances can potentially leak gas or carbon monoxide which can be deadly.
  • A regular service may pick up minor problems before they develop into major problems that could be costly.
  • Modern appliances are designed to run efficiently if you have your appliances checked with a combustion analyser this could reduce your monthly fuel bills.
Why do I need to have my system power flushed?

When a new boiler is fitted to an old system there is always a certain amount of loose iron oxide (sludge) floating about in the system or it can be stuck on the inside of radiators which will reduce the heat surface and cause cold spots or in extreme circumstances cold radiators. This can be remedied by power flushing the entire system and pipe work with a chemical process (this process is completely neutralised at the final stage). This process is not to be confused with a hot flush which is nowhere near as effective as a full power flush. In addition most boiler manufacturers recommend a power flush when a new boiler is fitted to an existing system and if the boiler fails due to debris in the system which finds its way to the boiler components your manufacturers warranty may be void.

Will the quoted price that you supply be honoured?

All prices will be honoured unless the specification changes or there is unforseen work to be undertaken and also if you decide that you would like more work done whilst we are on site. In all cases we will inform you before carrying out any extra work and will not proceed without your consent. We will communicate with you before, during and after completion of work.

Is there a call out charge?

Generally speaking, No, there is not a call out charge for estimates but if we have to travel a long distance we will have to cover fuel costs and we will inform you of this cost prior to leaving to attend your site, any costs incurred for estimates will be deducted from the final invoice if the work is carried out by our company.

Does a new high efficiency boiler really save money?

Boilers account for around 55% of what you spend in a year on energy bills, so an efficient boiler makes a big difference. Replacing an old gas boiler with an A-rated high-efficiency condensing boiler and improving your heating controls will significantly cut your home’s carbon dioxide emissions – and could save you as much as £310 a year.

Why do my drains get blocked?

A blocked drain may be a symptom of an underlying problem or simply that it needs a maintenance clean to remove grease, scale or tree root infestation.

What if it is not my drain that is blocked?

If the blockage is affecting your neighbours, it is likely that your Local Water authority is responsible for the blockage. If the blockage is affecting only your property, then this is most likely a private drain and the responsibility of the home owner.

Should I have a survey of my drains before buying a house?

Home buyer surveys are becoming more popular and are always a cost-effective option. Any defects identified can be resolved by the vendor before purchase and you can move into your new home in the knowledge that you will not have any expensive drainage issues. Ask your local office for a fixed cost CCTV survey.

How do I stop my drains blocking up?

Avoid pouring grease and paint into the drains, use of disposable wipes and any other debris. Periodic maintenance jetting and CCTV survey may be beneficial for older drains and those with limited gradient.

How do you clear the drains?

All our vans are equipped with High Pressure Water Jetting Equipment. This is our preferred method of drain clearing and supports other electro-mechanical equipment carried by our engineers.

Why are my bath and sink glugging and draining slowly?

Glugging or slow running waste pipes are a symptom of problems with flow, often due to a restriction in the pipes.

Should there be water lying in the bottom of my manhole?

The manhole invert or base should be dry except when the drain is flowing. If water is lying in the bottom of a manhole, or the manhole if full or partially full, then something is wrong.
